Does this require an above average intelligence to learn?
No. An ordinary intelligence will do. People ask me if they need a photographic memory to count cards. The answer is no. The game of blackjack is not democratic, however! Superior memory skills and play are rewarded and inferior play is penalized.
Can the casino ban card counters?
This depends on where you play. In Atlantic City, the casinos cannot ban card counters. In Nevada and Connecticut, casinos are allowed to refuse service to anyone at any time. Players are routinely "barred" in Nevada, usually being asked to leave or by being told that they are welcome to play any game other than blackjack. Barring in Connecticut is unusual.
How much of an advantage can card counting give?
A typical card counter will have an edge of from one to two percent, depending on the counting system used, the skill of the player, and the particular house rules that the player is fighting against. Advanced methods described in BlackJack Without Tears increase the edge.
Be in charge of the game, not at the mercy of it!
